How to Care for a Global Green Pothos

How to Care for a Global Green Pothos

Jul 13, 2026

The Global Green Pothos (Epipremnum aureum 'Global Green') is a relatively new and highly sought-after variety known for its stunning two-toned green leaves — a deep, rich green border with a lighter, almost lime-green center. Like other pothos varieties, it's wonderfully low-maintenance and adaptable, making it a great choice for beginners and collectors alike. Whether you're trailing it from a shelf or training it up a moss pole, the Global Green is a versatile and eye-catching addition to any space.

Light

Global Green Pothos thrives in bright to medium indirect light, which helps maintain its distinctive variegation. The contrast between the dark and light green is most vivid in brighter conditions. It will tolerate low light, but the variegation may fade and growth will slow. Avoid prolonged direct sun, which can bleach or scorch the leaves.

Watering

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry — roughly every 7–10 days in warmer months and every 2 weeks or so in winter. Pothos are drought-tolerant and prefer to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering is the most common mistake; always ensure your pot has drainage holes and never let it sit in standing water. Browse our planters with saucersto find the perfect fit.

Humidity & Temperature

Global Green Pothos is adaptable to average household humidity but appreciates 40–60% humidity for optimal growth. It does well in temperatures between 60–85°F (15–29°C). Keep it away from cold windows, drafts, and air conditioning vents in summer.

Soil & Potting

A standard well-draining potting mix works perfectly. Adding a small amount of perlite improves drainage and aeration. Repot every 1–2 years or when roots start escaping the drainage holes — spring is the best time to do this.

Fertilizing

Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength — our houseplant fertilizer tablets make this easy. Skip fertilizing in fall and winter. Pothos are light feeders, so less is more — over-fertilizing can cause tip burn and salt buildup in the soil.

Propagation

Pothos are among the easiest plants to propagate. Take a stem cutting with at least one node and one leaf, place it in a glass of water in a bright spot, and change the water weekly. Roots will appear within 1–3 weeks, and you can pot it up once they reach about an inch long.

Common Issues

  • Yellow leaves — most often overwatering. Let the soil dry out more between waterings.
  • Fading variegation — move to a brighter spot to restore the two-toned green contrast.
  • Brown tips — low humidity or inconsistent watering. Try a humidifier or pebble tray.
  • Leggy vines — normal growth habit, but pruning encourages bushier growth. Our pruning shears are perfect for the job — use cuttings to propagate!
  • Pests — pothos can attract mealybugs, spider mites, and fungus gnats. Treat with our Organic Houseplant Care Spray at first sign.

Final Tips

The Global Green Pothos looks stunning in a hanging basket or planter, trailing from a high shelf, or climbing a moss pole for larger leaves. It's also an excellent air-purifying plant and pairs beautifully with other green-toned plants in a styled shelfie or plant corner. Need everything in one place?
